C. Dawn
McCallum grew
up telling stories
to the trees
around her
childhood home
in Duncanville,
Texas. The real
Tree Palace was
cut down in
1985, but still
lives in her heart
and memory.
When she wasn’t outside climbing trees or building forts as a child, she
loved to read encyclopedias and watch documentaries. She first
dreamed of being an author after reading “Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory” by Roald Dahl. She wrote and illustrated her first “book” in
sixth grade—a time-travel mystery called “Travel Through Time.”
She earned a B.A. in English Language and Composition and a M.Ed. in
Secondary Education from the University of North Texas, in Denton,
Texas.
After many years of struggling to find topics to write about, she
discovered the “trick” of her creative writing process. Trust that the right
idea will come. Keep writing (and reading!) in the meantime.
Dawn has always loved writers who have made her see the world in a
different way. The books of Baha’u’llah (written way back in the 1800s)
transformed her life and filled her sight with the glory of a new era for
humanity.
A teacher, writer, and editor, she also spends her time serving causes
close to her heart. She lives Duncanville, Texas.
C. Dawn McCallum has published two short stories.
“The Canyon Flier” told the story of a migrant worker’s
race for freedom. “The Princess who had Everything She
Needed” is a fable about contentment in the modern world.
Published by Longhorn Creek Press, “The Caretaker of
Tree Palace” is her first novel publication.
